About MKEaT
MKEat is a multi-disciplinary, community-based grant. We encourage projects that reflect community needs and welcome all types of manifestation, including (but certainly not limited to) performance, video, design, music, public installation, community engagement projects, theater, media arts, arts outreach, youth projects, dance, educational opportunities, projects rooted in sustainable practices, and outreach to under-represented communities. Please understand that the number of proposals we are able to accept and display at each MKEaT is based on the venue we’re at and how much space is available.
Before crafting your project proposal, please consider the following:
• What community are you trying to serve?
• Who does this project benefit?
• How do you plan to spend your grant?
• When will this project occur?
• If you win, how will you present your progress at the next MKEaT?
• Have you applied for any other grants before for this project?
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read and follow very carefully the instructions below. Word counts will be strictly enforced. Deviation from the described format will delay or disqualify your proposal.
******We will accept proposals on a first come first serve basis until we have 10 total******
Step 1: Write your proposal using the following format. Keep in mind that this text will be what the MKEaT attendees will read and base their votes on.
A. First and last names of the project leader and any project collaborators
B. Contact information for project leader: email address, phone number, mailing address
C. Brief project title (8 words maximum)
D. Project summary (100 words maximum)
E. How will your project manifest at the next MKEaT? (60 words maximum)
F. How will you use funding towards the realization of your project? (60 words maximum)
G. Why is this project critical to the community? (60 words maximum)
Step 2: Gather your imagery.
We request that you submit up to 4 images that will appear alongside your written proposal at MKEaT.
If your project is time-based, you may also submit a 1-minute video in the form of a URL to YouTube. Unfortunately, we may be unable to display your video at the actual event venue; in that case only patrons who review your proposal on the MKEaT website before the event will see your video.
Step 3: Email your written proposal and images to dkellymail@gmail.com. Your written proposal, formatted as described above, should be delivered as a text-only Microsoft Word file. The filename of the written proposal should contain the first and last name of the project leader. Do not deliver the written portion as a PDF file or an image file, and do not type the written portion into the body of your email: you must attach a Word file or similar word-processing file. We cannot accept hard copies of project proposals.
Your images should be delivered as JPEG or PNG files, up to 1 megabyte each, and must be suitable for output at 150ppi at 8″ x 10″. The filename of each image should contain the first and last name of the project leader. Do not embed images into your Word file. Images that are larger than 1 megabyte will be discarded. We cannot accept hard copies of images.
Step 4: Wait for confirmation and start inviting your friends!
We’ll inform you one week before the upcoming MKEaT event if your proposal has been selected for voting at MKEaT. Remember that when you help promote MKEaT to your friends, more of them will be in attendance to help vote for your project!
A note about attending MKEaT: We strongly encourage you to attend MKEaT with lots of friends to enthusiastically drum up votes for your project and informally speak with patrons about your project. If you would like to set up anything in addition to the proposal that we’ll post for you, please inform us of your plans as soon as you enter your proposal. For any set-up, we ask that you arrive 90 minutes prior to the MKEaT start time. Please coordinate this set-up with our project support crew by emailing dkellymail@gmail.com .
